Final Year Show Rough Layout

We were tasked as a team to come up with different ways we could layout our boards for the end of year show, and as well as this, we also thought of some marketing we could do for our film during this time. One of our first ideas was to get a board in which we could drill holes and insert fairy lights to act like stars in a similar way to our ending scene. Yazz has some great connections for prop making as well to help us get the board made if we did go through with the idea. We were also hoping to have a toy version of Goober made to sit on our final year show table which will be made by Lydia’s friend from Sixteen South.

Yazz had the idea of using velcro tape to place ipads to the board for the likes of portfolio work or animation reels similar to slide shows along with our showreels playing on individual macs. As a cause of our animation being centred around father and son themes, and because Goober is a toy we thought about putting our own toys from childhood on top of the board like a frame. To label our sections of the layout, I thought about using children styled drawings of ourselves next to our work as a playful way of using labels rather than just using our names. As an extra nod to our film, we were thinking of printing a drawing of both Goober and Arthur’s son Mikey like the polaroid used in one of our scenes. Our board will also be covered into different artwork we made for the film including renders and photos of us working together. I created this rough layout on Procreate just to give us an idea as to what I thought the final product may look like and will be subject to change.

Yazz had created this amazing design below that I’m really hoping we can make, especially with her ties with prop making, I could definitely see it happening!  She also mentioned that we could paint the mountain part of our board together to lay our artwork onto and I think that would be a nice touch to show how well our team works together. I think the idea of having the car cutout infront of the table is genius and I’m excited to see and contribute towards the overall product! As a group consensus, I believe we’re all pretty much set on Yazz’s design for the layout of our boards. We also discussed the idea of having a standee of Goober next to our boards so that visitors could take photos with him if they’d like, we could even make him a couple of metres tall like his size in the animation.

As for marketing on the day, we were hoping to create ‘Come Home’ themed business cards to give out to different employers on the day of the final year show to create some incentive to visit our boards. There were also ideas put forward of creating our own green jumpers or T-shirts for our team with Goober’s face or outline on it as a fun keepsake in a way that would emulate ‘My neighbour Totoro merchandise like this as well as Goober themed key chains.

Lydia had created these amazing mock ups of what our Goober themed hoodies could look like and I can’t wait until we get to make them for the final year show!

Lastly, our class came together to sort each other into different groups for the final year show and I volunteered to help out with the layout team, we had discussed different ways we could present the show due to the number of solo projects this year. Last year there were issues with the heat of the room when it was filled with a lot of people and we were looking into ideas such as adding more fans around each corner of the room, or even asking for the temperature of the room to be lowered before the crowds come in. I’m hoping that closer to the time I will be able to help with physically setting up the different stands but for now, we’ve just been discussing where each team should go depending on categories and creating a map to help people figure out where each stand is. Lydia is also currently looking into getting a 3D mockup of the final year room so that we can get a better grasp on the show’s layout.
